Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have a hard knot in the back of my throat behind my ulva. It does not hurt but for a few months i have felt like i have a lump in my throat, much like the feeling of phlegm. I have noticed my voice has changed the last few months, kind of hoarse, not bad, though. Don t know if the knot has always been there and i just discovered it or what. How i found it was i felt like i had something hung in the back of my throat, so i stuck my finger back there and found the hard knot.
As per your query hard knot behind uvula is due to a condition called granular pharyngitis , which is a infection of pharynx behind the uvula . It is like a swelling which looking pus filled lump and appear to you like a bone. This infection sometimes causes clogging of ear as well. I would suggest you to to:-
- Do warm saline gargles and betadine gargles alternately 2-3 times a day .
- For pain and swelling take ibuprofen (if not allergic) or acetaminophen .
- Give warm to lower throat area.
Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and to rule out other causes . Doctor will examine physically or may order swan test or blood test to confirm the diagnosis. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics (penicillin or amoxicillin) at least for a week mucolytic agent like ambroxol or decongestants. Drink plenty of fluids.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
