What Causes Hard Painful Lump Behind My Ear?

Hello, I found a lump behind my right ear the other day which is causing me some concern. I had a similar lump behind my left ear about a month ago but thought it was a pimple and after picking at it for some time, it finally went away. The current one is painful to touch and is pretty solid. I have read a bunch of stuff about lymph nodes becoming inflamed due to infections and other more serious stuff. I ve made a doctors appointment for this Wed but can t stop worrying. Cancer runs in our family and I m really hoping that s not what s wrong. Pls help

Hi.
Thanks for your query.

First of all remember, that the cancers do not occur in the lymph nodes behind the ears unless the cervical nodes are also involved.

Secondly, there are other reasons for the lumps to be present behind the ear like :
Sebaceous cysts,
Lipoma

Your visit to Doctor will confirm what you have.
The pain indicates that you have an infected sebaceous cyst or a infected lymph node.
Take an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicines as soon as possible.
