What Causes Hard Painful Lump On Right Side Of Head?

I have a hard bony lump on the right side of my head a couple of inches above my ear. It only hurts when pressed and sometimes when I accidentally itch it it really hurts. I can sleep perfectly fine on it. I found it 2 days ago and try to put it away but I can feel that it s there.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have hard painful lump on right side of head . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like hematoma , abscess or boil . The lump can be allergic reaction from bite or infected from insect bite. The pain in right lower side of the head could be due to occipital neuralgia or migraine . I would suggest you to consult general Surgeon , Doctor may order CBC of Skull. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory and vitamin supplement for quick healing and in case of insect bite doctor may also prescribe immunosuppressants. For now apply warm compresses and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . Do not put pressure on lump while sleeping . Doctor may also drain the lump or may recommend surgically removal of abscess . Doctor may also take sample from lump for lab test .
