What Causes Hard Painful Lump On The Shaft Of Penis?

My 7 year old son has a large hard lump on the shaft of his penis. There is a little whitehead, and what appears to be a little hole in the skin next to it. I put a warm compress on it. Some of the pus came out, but it is sore and he doesn t like the warm water on it. I put antibiotic ointment on it, now he s in bed. Could it be from urine in his pull up? Still working on that...... What should I do? Or is it just time to go to doc? He just noticed it this morning. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Based on the description, he may have a small abscess.
An abscess is a localized collection of pus. The urine in the pull up could possibly contribute

The warm compress is a good idea and the use of anti inflammatory pain killers would help with any discomfort that he is experiencing eg children advil or cataflam.

It would be best for him to see his doctor for assessment, antibiotics may be needed.

I hope this helps
