What Causes Hardening Of An Artery On The Penis?

I just went to the doctor (it was a nurse practitioner who saw me) today for what seems like hardening of an artery on the right side of my penis. It started about 2 to 3 months ago. At first it started as a hard lump in the artery and in several days had gone from a lump to a hardening of the artery. It was pretty painful at first when I had an erection, but as the lump went away and it become more of the hardened artery the pain seemed to subside. I do try to take precautions when I masturbate, but it hasn t cause me much in the way of pain for a while now. As far as visiting the Urologist today, the nurse practitioner told me that it was Peronei s disease. I completely disagree with that diagnosis. Particularly since you can clearly feel that it is the artery that is hard and not any of the connective tissue. I haven t had sex since about April, and I didn t suffer any sort of trauma to the area. I do recall that the day I first noticed it, when I woke up that day I was sleeping on my stomach. I very rarely ever sleep on my stomach. So I don t know if while I was sleeping my penis was in an awkward position. Anyhow, from the little I ve searched online, I feel my condition could be more associated with Mondor s syndrome. Any thoughts? Again, I don t agree at all with the Peyronie s disease.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my clinical experience, I do agree with the possibility of Mondor`s disease ( superficial thrombophlebitis of dorsal penile vein ). There is very less likely to be Peyronie`s disease. I would like to confirm the diagnosis by physical examination or recommend you to take a doppler ultrasound of the penis for confirmation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
