What Causes Hardness And Soreness In The Stomach?

I have a 18 month baby, and her tummy has become hard where the veins are showing, and she keeps telling me that it is sore. I gave her some pain medicine and she went to sleep, when she woke up this morning, it wasn t swollen or hard, but the school phoned me today to tell me she is complaining about the pain.
