What Causes Headache After Head Injury?

My son had a helmet to helmet hit in football practice tuesday night and he had a headache that night and the next day, felt better this morning. He was checked by his coach s and he was ok to keep practicing, We kept a close eye on him for several hour s before he went to sleep, always asking if he felt different in any way, he did not. He knew to tell me because he knew I was going to take him into our local ER and get him checked out. He has not had a practice since then but I am now regretting not taking him. If I take him now would they be able to tell me anything , and when we go what test should I make sure they are doing to confirm that he is ok..

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have headache after head injury . Well small headaches are common after a head injury and should subside on its own or with mild painkillers like paracetamol. Here are some of the red flags which you should be aware of 1. If the pain does not subside or increases even after 2 days or if there are any unusual symptoms like confusion, altered consciousness or severe headache , then consult neurologist without any delay to rule out condition like concussion . Doctor may order CT scan or MRI and treat it accordingly .
