What Causes Headache After Taking Trazodone?

I have been on 1 and 1/2 zanax for sleep since 2012. It has not worked for several months so I started taking two 1 mg tablets. They worked but my Dr. thought it would be better to take trazodone 50 mg per night. Have taken for 2 nights and both nights went to bed with headache and woke up with headache and congested and horse. It went away after a few hours. Should I take it or go back to zanax which does work.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Trazodone is an anti depressant medication used for depression control in many of the cases with best results, but not without side effects in many as well. Following are general side effects of Trazodone:
- Blurred vision
- Palpitation
- Lethargy
- Priapism in overdose
- Nausea, diarrhea
- Stuffy nose
- Weight loss

In a summary, you have to stop further dose consumption of Trazodone and report to your doc office for further guidelines of therapy.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
