What Causes Headache And Immovable Bump Behind Ear?
Hi, I have had a hard immovable bump behind my ear ( I believe on the temporal bone) for about three years. It has never really bothered me except for when I am very tired or haven t eaten in a while. Then I get a headache that radiates in that area. I somtimes also get shooting pains in my shoulder that accompanied with pain in that area, and sometimes when I bend my head forward it hurts in that area. Recently it seems to have grown slightly larger, although I m not sure because it s difficult for me to tell. Should I be concerned.
You have history of having an immovable bump behind the ear since three years. Presently, it has grown in size and causing headache, shooting pain also on the shoulders. Immovable lump behind the ear is commonly caused by swollen lymph nodes, sebaceous cyst, mastoiditis, infection, lipoma, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP / ENT. Get investigations, CT, MRI, white blood cell count, X-ray skull, etc.
Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected. In the meantime, you can take pain relieving medicines(naproxen), one SOS when needed for relief. You may need a course of antibiotics for faster healing. Depending on the symptoms and severity of the pathology detected, the treatment can be conservative or may require surgery.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
