I have a headache and every once in a while smell a mettalic smell or blood smell what could cause this? I have suffered from sever headaches since I was 5. When I was 14 I had a ct scan but nothing was found. Since then I have suffered through years of headaches. I am now 22 and I have a really bad headache which is not uncommon but with this one every once in a while I will have a really bad throbbing pain and smell blood for a min or so then it stops. Also don't know if this means anything but the best medicine to stop my headaches is Naproxin.
I read carefully your question and would explain that your symptoms seem to be related to migraine with aura.
I recommend consulting with a neurologist for a careful physical examination, an EEG and a brain MRI ( it is a more sensitive examination than CT scan for detecting possible problems).
Based on the tests results, you should discuss with the doctor on the possible preventive therapy (antiepilepsy drugs of antidepressants could be helpful).
Hope you will find this answer helpful! Best wishes, Dr. Aida
