Hello,

I can understand your concern. Painful lymph node in the neck area indicates presence of infection. As you are not having sore throat and not experiencing pain during swallowing, the focus of infection seems to be present in the oral cavity.

If your lower jaw molar tooth is decayed or you have impacted wisdom tooth, it may cause swollen lymph node in the neck region along with headache and pain up to the temple area.

I would advise you to visit a dentist for examination of the oral cavity. If decayed tooth is the cause, then treatment by root canal treatment or extraction of the tooth will remove the infection and thus pain. If wisdom tooth is impacted, then its surgical removal is advised.

By the time you visit a dentist, you can take Ibuprofen 400 mg or Ketorolac 10 mg up to thrice a day to have relief in pain. Please do not do heat compressions or hot water gargles until you visit a dentist as the infection may worsen.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
