What Causes Headache, Heart Palpitations After An Head Injury?

I am a 56 year old female, I fell at work trying to stop my students from fighting and hit my head on the cafeteria floor, was rushed to the hospital several week ago. I now have head aches, heart palpitations so I was given a CAT scan. There is a mild to moderate diffuse brain atrophy with compensatory dilation of the ventricles and sulci. What does this mean???

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. A lot of individuals develop persistent headache, dizziness like symptoms following head trauma. The headache usually respond to fluids and OTC analgesics. In some severe cases medicines like Sodium Valproate etc are given for treatment. Sodium Valproate not only helps in headache but also helps in preventing seizures following head trauma. You have underwent CT scan and mild to moderate diffuse brain atrophy along with widened sulci is seen. This could occur due to age related changes in brain but is not related to that trauma of head. This is not a serious finding so no need to worry. Try to relax yourself and reassure that you are absolutely fine.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
