What Causes Headache, Nausea And High BP?

I have had a mild, dull headache for 6 days, and I have felt slightly nauseous with it. On day 1 and 3 I experienced, what I am told are Ice Pick Headaches (so not fun) and my BP is elevated to roughly 140/99 and a little higher. I ve taken it several times over the past two days and it has not been lower than this. I take HCTZ currently, and my doctor is thinking of trying the addition of another BP controlling medication, but I have been allergic/intolerant of the past two they tried. I am concerned that my headache may be a warning of something more than elevated BP. What can I do in the short term to begin to make the biggest difference in bringing my BP down or combating a major medical problem?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

High blood pressure can cause severe headaches and classically describe as a dull type of severe pain. Start on antihypertensives to bring down the blood pressure.

If the headache persists better to consult a neurologist and get evaluated to rule out other causes. In that case, you might require an MRI scan to rule out other possible causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
