What Causes Headache Post Removal Of Tonsils And Adenoids?

My 19 year old daughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed two days ago. She is complaining of a severe headache? She has been given Hdrocodone every 3 hours since she has been home and a 1/2 tablet of oxycodone about 2 hours ago and says it is still pounding. Is this normal?

Hi,

Throat pain, ear pain, neck stiffness as well as headache are very common symptoms after removal of tonsils and adenoids. You are advised to take anti pain for first 2-3 days regularly, so that the pain and headache does not become severe. After 2-3 days dose of analgesic may be taken as required under guidance of your doctor. Complete recovery in adenoidectomy takes a few days, where as recovery from tonsillectomy is within 2 weeks. Complete adequate rest is also advised for first 2-3 days.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
