What Causes Headache, Sore Throat And Body Pain While Taking Levothyroxine?

My daughter is 18. She s complaining of headache, pain to the touch all over her body, sore throat, she can t get warm enough, shaking, and last night she laid in bed and for a few moments couldn t move her arms and legs. She thought she was paralyzed. No fever yesterday or today. She is under a lot of stress with her final weeks of high school. She is currently on Levothyroxin for her hypothyroidism.

Hi,

The symptoms your daughter is experiencing may be related to several factors, including stress, hypothyroidism, or side effects of her medication. Levothyroxine is a medication used to treat an underactive thyroid gland, and while it is generally well-tolerated, it can cause side effects in some people.

Some possible side effects of Levothyroxine include headache, muscle pain, and tremors, which could potentially explain some of your daughter's symptoms. However, do note that these symptoms could be due to other underlying health problems or stress.

Your daughter must seek medical attention from a healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause of her symptoms and receive appropriate treatment. They may recommend additional diagnostic tests, such as blood work or imaging studies, and may adjust her medication or recommend other treatments as needed.

In the meantime, your daughter can try to manage her symptoms by getting plenty of rest and staying well-hydrated, practicing stress-reducing techniques such as meditation or deep breathing exercises, and taking over-the-counter pain relievers as directed for headaches or body pain. It is also important to follow her healthcare provider's instructions for taking her medication and attend all scheduled appointments for her condition.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

Headache, body pain, and sore throat are all common side effects of Levothyroxine. However, if your daughter is experiencing more severe symptoms such as shaking, inability to get warm, and temporary paralysis, it is important to seek medical attention right away.

These symptoms could be indicative of a more serious condition such as a thyroid storm, which is a rare but life-threatening complication of hypothyroidism. It could also be related to the stress she is experiencing, as stress can trigger or exacerbate certain health conditions.

In any case, it's important to have your daughter evaluated by a healthcare professional as soon as possible. They will be able to assess her symptoms, perform any necessary tests, and determine the best course of treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
