Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Headaches After Inhaling Clorox Fumes?
I inhaled clorox fumes and when I did, I felt a bad brain freeze or burn. Ever since, when I draw breath, I inhale smoothly only to a point, and then the breath hits speed bumps or continues in steps, if that makes sense. And, from time to time, I have a pain in the back of my head. It has improved a bit over time, so I have assumed there is no permanent damage. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Jay
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advise.
Inhalation of Clorox fumes is associated with vomiting, chest pain, breathing difficulty and sometimes pneumonia depending upon the quantity and duration of exposure. In your case if you came into contact for only few seconds and only headache is the symptom then no need to worry. Get some fresh air. Watch for any symptoms described above for 2-3 days. If nothing happens in this duration you are free from Clorox fumes.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
