What Causes Headaches After Thyroid Removal?

my girlfriend just had her thyriods removed and they found cancer from out of nowhere she has this terrible headache on the left side of her head, 2 things is this something thats needs to been seen by a doctor tonight? or can it wait? and the other thing is can she take something for it and what?

Hi,

It has been observed that after thyroid surgery, it is very common to have posterior cervical pain as well as occipital headache. In fact this is present in about 80% of cases undergoing thyroid surgery. However, in most of the cases, it is transient and goes away by itself in a few days, but sometimes may take a few weeks for its complete resolution.

Thus, in my opinion you need not seeing your doctor immediately and you can take some OTC analgesic like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen etc., to relieve this headache. However, if the headache, persists or becomes worst, then you are advised to consult your doctor.
