What Causes Headaches And Abnormal Vaginal Discharge After Insertion Of An IUD?

Hello. Im 42 and had an iud put in about 2 weeks ago. My periods have always been very light and only 3 days long. I just had my first period since the iud was inserted and its much heavier, im having alot of blood clots and have some tissue like discharges. Ive also been getting very strange and different headaches. Is all this normal with an iud? It is one that has hormones

Hi,

There can be some bleeding after IUD insertion couple of days & it stops automatically. If you had the insertion before your periods start... such bleeding is possible for disturbing the endometrium & causing inflammation there/chances of early pregnancy cannot be ignored.. needs investigations (using) & needful treatment. Please consult your gynecologist for real profuse bleeding with clots lasting more than 2-3 days.
