What Causes Headaches And Tiredness Post Abdominal Colectomy?

I am 7 weeks status post total abdominal colectomy. After initially feeling much better following the surgery, I have gone downhill. I have been hospitalized once for dehydration, pain control, and infection of the skin surrounding my stoma. I then had a round of Keflex for incisional infections. Now I just feel terrible in general. I am generally tired, I have extreme muscle aches, and continual headaches. By now I would have expected to be feeling better, but instead I feel like I ve been hit by a bus. What gives?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

All the symptoms can be due to one of the following reasons:
Infection still lingering somewhere which needs careful evaluation.
Some other problem secondary to or unrelated to surgery.
Deficiency of vitamins, mineral, trace elements or anemia and so on.
All this can be diagnosed by the following ways:
Get admitted for proper clinical evaluation, examination by a Surgeon and Physician too.
Get full investigations as follows:
Blood: CBC, culture and sensitivity, all organ functions like thyroid, liver, kidneys and so on.
X-ray of chest.
Ultrasonography or better a CT scan of abdomen.
All these can get you a proper diagnosis.
Specific the cause can be treated well for you to recover well.
Also take therapeutic doses of multivitamins, mineral, trace elements, proteins and iron.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, General Surgeon
