What Causes Headaches, Fever And Cough?

I have had a pounding headache and fever for three days, with a cough. The fever has been between 100.3 and 101.5. I am prone to headaches but I have not had a fever for over 15 years. I plan on calling my doctor tomorrow, but was wondering is regret a viral or bacterial infection going around with these symptoms?

From the symptoms you have described, it seems that you are having upper respiratory tract infection.

You can take Cefixime (Topcef) 200 mg twice a day for 5 days to have relief from the infection. To have relief from the fever and headache, Acetaminophen (Crocin) 500 mg two times a day till the fever subsides can be taken. If you are prone to acidity due to antibiotics, taking Ranitidine Hydrochloride (Zinetac) 150 mg twice a day can help.

For additional help, you can do warm salt water gargles. Stay away from cold food and drinks. Take plenty of fluids and have rest. The headache and fever are because of the infection. As the infection will resolve, these symptoms will disappear.

If you do not feel relief from fever in next 3-4 days, I would advise to visit a physician for physical examination. If the symptoms resolve in less than 5 days, do finish the course of antibiotic.
