I have been on Procardia 90xl for years with good bp results except my ankles would swell up during the day. My doctor just switch me to vasotec 5mg how long before I should see any positive bp results. I currently have a droning headache, and my bp is 150/90

Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern.
Procardia is calcium channel blocker, although drug of choice in blacks and works best in Asians descents, however it has two disadvantages in your case.
1. It causes peripheral edema like ankle swelling. Hence it will aggravate your edema or will cause it.
2. it has no renal or cardioprotective effect.
Vasotec which is an ACE inhibitor has two advantages in your case.
It is drug of choice in all diabetics, heart failure patients and less than 55 years old.
Besides it has cardio or renal protective effect.
I would like to advise you to continue vasotec. However 5mg will be no sufficient. Increase it to 10 mg.
If still swelling persists and BP high than 140/90
then add diuretic to your antihypertensive medications like thiazide diuretic. Combination of ACE inhibitor and diuretic are available.
Do Chest Xray, ECG, Echo, renal function tests and let the doctor see your report.
Limit salt intake, Start DASH diet protocol like low carbohydrates, high protein and fibre rich diet.
Do regular aerobic excersize thirty minute a day five times a week. Also do mentle relaxation excersize like Yoga and Meditation.
Hope it helps best.
