Hi: Similar question only when as a baby I was shoved onto the floor and my nose was broken side of my face cheek bone slightly misaligned, and as growing up my father ALWAYS struck me over the ears, I gradually lost my hearing starting about 15 and now I m in my 60 s and almost down to zilch. As well I only have about 1 good nostril from all of this, though I am smart, hold a good job, talk OK, hear myself talk but the incoming sound have grown fainter dimmer over the yrs. Is this caused from abuse? Thankyou for your opinion.
Hearing loss due to trauma is maximum at time of injury and slowly recovery. But your mentioned that slowly progressive hearing loss. It may be due to mutations in GJB2 are the commonest cause of severe-to-profound autosomal recessive congenital hearing loss in many populations.
It may be due to drugs or alcohol or neuro-degenerative hearing loss. What has your doctor mentioned? Is it conductive or sensoneural hearing loss? Please get it done audiometry and tympanogram then consult ENT specialist get treated accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
