Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter had a Phys Asst tell her she had a heart murmur and referred her to a cardiologist. She is 22 years old and I find that odd. Never in any of her visits to doctors as a child did anyone ever mention this. My question is: Why would it be found now at such a late age?
There can be some diseases which may develop later in the life, like mitral valve prolapse and mitral regurgitation, aortic regurgitation due to multiple causes.
However, it can be just a flow murmur which is normal thing and may occur with low hemoglobin and some hyper dynamic states. So overall, these are not always pathological but should be evaluated with echo.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
