What Causes Heart Palpitations And Fever In A Child?
My daughter is 2 years old she started running a fever yesterday, ran one all night and woke up all threw the night crying with stomach pain. This morning her fever got up to 104.5, has rapid heart rate, very sleepy and lifeless. Went to local er. They did strep test, urine test X-ray on bell and blood work. Said everything came back fine but her white blood count was 18,000. Said it was probably just a viral infection. Since then she still has fever, has threw up 4 times yellow-greenish vomit and I can t keep her awake. Could this really be just a virus or something more serious?
Because the child is very lethargic, it is very important to send her back to the hospital and get observed by medical staff. When the temperature reaches 104 F in children, viral infections are likely, but more serious infections should be ruled out. It is also important to keep the child well hydrated, which can be very difficult if the child is not very alert. The high fever can cause the child to be so sleepy and also to lose a lot of fluids.
So, it is important to send the child to the hospital and be monitored there.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
