Hello,

Not all heart palpitations are dangerous, some occur due to stress, alcohol (beer), nicotine, caffeine or entertainment drug abuse. Obesity & sedentary job commonly cause palpitations. Anxiety disorder, hyperthyroidism, arrhythmia (heart problem) are other causes.

Stay away from addictions, stress (physical or emotional), visit ER get examined & get all investigations done to rule out panic disorder & thyroid issues. Get treated if diagnosed positive.

Maintain weight as per BMI, switch to healthy lifestyle & eating habits. Take leafy greens, berries, fruits, veggies. Avoid red meat, cut on a high protein (cheese), take whole grain meals to avoid refined flour, cut on carbohydrate. To control weight take home made boiled food or food made in olive oil. Avoid spicy, oily, creamy food.

Exercise regularly. Neglect may lead to worsening of the symptoms (fainting/syncope, cardiac arrest, stroke (caused by AF), heart failure (caused by untreated arrhythmia)). These symptoms indicate CAD, coronary artery disease.

It is wise to rule out developing coronary artery disease at an early stage. Get blood workout done (lipid profile) to rule out high cholesterol & triglyceride. Take stress test & echocardiography for a thorough heart study to rule out arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, flutter, ectopic beats & cardiovascular disease.

Get examined, assessed, treated at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
