Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve recently noticed skipping heart beats. Can feel an uneasy sensation, then it subsidies. Has happened a few times in the past couple weeks. I m 64 and had a physical last year. I take Lipitor 10mg, otherwise good health. When should I be concerned about this?
I can understand your concern. Lipitor is Atorvastatin and the drug is a statin drug. The drug usually doesn't cause palpitations. The symptoms you are having like skipping the beats, uneasy sensations which are occurring in episodes should be evaluated properly.
I'd advise you to consult a physician for evaluation and to rule out any cardiac cause. ECG can help to find out arrhythmia as cause of these symptoms. If medical causes are ruled out then most probable cause for these symptoms is anxiety.
Visit a psychiatrist for help. Medicines like low dose benzodiazepines as Etizolam or Oxazepam etc can be used for relief of symptoms. Visit a psychiatrist for prescription. If symptoms persist even after that then proper treatment with SSRIs is advised.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
