What Causes Heartburn, Nausea And Burping After Eating?

Hello, I am experiencing heartburn, nausea, feeling of being full even with very small meals, and burping. Laying flat at night esp. shortly after eating or drinking makes my symptoms worse. It also feels like food does not fully digest down and feels like it gets stuck in my esophagus. About 15 years ago after giving birth to my daughter I was diagnosed with a Hiatal hernia but never received treatment for it because the MD said it was so small that it shouldn t cause any issues. And up until the last few months I haven t had any real problems; no more than a little heartburn after eating something spicy or saucey. What could be causing this, what can I do to help my symptoms, and should I seek medical care right away?

General Surgeon 's  Response

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query.
I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
These difficulties that you describe are suggestive of stomach irritation due to GERD or hiatal hernia. These both are very common and should be initial treated which changing dietary habits.. It will also be aggravated by certain food or medications, stress and smoking. You need to avoid fried food, carbonated drinks, coffee, alcohol and spicy food. You should eat more milk products, vegetables and boiled food. Also, certain antiacid medications may be required and as last option, it is possible to perform surgical repair of hernia especially if there are progressive respiratory discomfort and dyspepsia. To diagnose it you should do gastroscopy and if this is negative as in your case then you should do contrast xrays of stomach.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
