What Causes Heartburn Post Wisdom Teeth Removal?

I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted 4 days ago. I have been having severe heartburn ever since the day after surgery. I am 28 years old and I m in good health otherwise. I ve never really had acid reflux before. The pain from the heartburn is so bad I really have a hard time swallowing. I was prescribed a acetaminophen/hydrocodone medicine for pain, but my oral pain has been pretty mild. Is the heartburn normal and is there anything that can be done to help it?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain heartburn in your case that is occurring after wisdom tooth extraction seems to be due to side effect of the medication as the painkillers and antibiotics can cause hyperacidity and it can lead to acid reflux and pain on swallowing and heartburn..

I would suggest you to start taking proton pump inhibitors like Omeprazole empty stomach in the morning till you are taking medications..
Take antacid like milk of magnesia half an hour before meals..
Drink plenty of water..
Avoid spicy foods..
Eat more of probiotics like Yoghurt..
Sleep with head slightly raised as compared to feet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
