What Causes Heat Inside The Body Along With Burning Sensation In Hands?

For the past couple of days I have a sensation of intense heat inside my body. My outside temperature is normal. I am taking fluoxetine and recently began a treatment with amoxicilline. Also, I suffer from BPD and have recently came for a visit to a place where the temperature is between 5 and 7degrees hotter than home. I also feel my hands and feet burning up and usually have to dip them in wster with ice for 10min to remove the burning sensation.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you are having burning sensation in the hands and feet you are suggested to drink plenty of water. Sometimes, due to dehydration, you may have such sensation. You are taking Amoxycillin, it is an antibiotic and may cause dehydration. Hence, burning sensation in the eyes or other parts of the body or rash. Take regular shower and sponge your body for relief. Wear cool cotton clothes. Always rest in comfortable environment, relax and take break between work. Stay away from anxiety and stress.

Fluorxetine is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor and is reported to cause hyperthermic reactions. You are suggested to consult your treating doctor who has prescribed you the medicine so that the doses can be monitored or medicine replaced by other medication that suits you better. Other causes of burning sensation are alcohol abuse, use of cocaine or amphetamines and side effects of certain medications. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
