Hi,I am Raju.A.T (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Heaviness In Chest, Headache In Supine Position And Fatigue?
I have an international student living with me so his English is somewhat limited. He complains of heaviness in his chest, no pain with deep inhalation, headache when he is supine. His temperature is normal, pulse is elevated to 92 bpm, respiratory rate is normal. Earlier today he was extremely fatigued and spent most of the day sleeping. He said he had chills and fever earlier this afternoon but not currently. no cough or sore throat. My question is, should I take him to ER or wait til the morning for an urgent care clinic and is there anything I can give him to make him more comfortable? Any ideas what could be going on with him?
So he is was having fever and chills, followed by chest heaviness and headache. The pulse rate you mentioned is normal. This can suggest a viral fever. If the headache is not severe, and there is no vomiting or loose stools, let him take paracetamol / acetaminophen three times a day (after food) for 2-3 days, adequate bed rest, plenty of oral fluids and a soft diet. Most likely he will be fine by then. If not getting better in two days or fresh symptoms appear, kindly take him to doctor for further evaluation.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK, Pediatrician
