What Causes Heavy And Painful Periods After Child Birth?

Hello! I am a woman, 30 years old, and have had 5 babies, with the youngest being 8 mths. Since my last baby, my periods have been progressively more painful to the point where this one is almost unbearable. My periods are also extremely heavy. I was not sure if I should be concerned about something worse than just it being strange . Also, a few days after my last delivery, I lost a large baseball sized mass (not blood clot) wasn t sure if that could have something to do with this.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is quite common after a childbirth.
It is due to minor hormonal changes following the delivery.
Nothing much to worry and it will settle by itself. As of now, you can take drugs like mefenamic acid for pain relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
