What Causes Heavy And Prolonged Bleeding After Taking Utovlan?

I have had merina coil for 3 years. No periods. 5 weeks ago I started passing brown old blood. Doctor prescribed Utovlan which I am currently taking. (4th day) Not only am I still bleeding but it is now heavy and bright red. Can you advise please. Thankyou

-While using Mirena, sometimes irregular bleeding can be seen as a side effect.

-As you didn't get periods for 3 years, there is a possibility for endometrial thickness that can lead to bleeding.

-Ultrasound helps in confirming the position of the Mirena and to find out the endometrial thickness.

-Utovlan contains Norethisterone, it helps in decreasing the bleeding by acting on the endometrium.

If the intake time of this tablet is altered or if the tablet is missed, that can lead to bleeding.

Increasing the dose of the tablet can help if the present dose is not sufficient. Antifibrinolytic drugs also can help in decreasing the bleeding.

So, you discuss these things with your doctor and follow her advice.
