What Causes Heavy Bleeding During Menstruation?

Hi

I have been trying to conceive for over five years now and I have been recording my cycle and it is always 28 days. I started to bleed a week early this month, it has been quite heavy with a mixture of red and brown blood. I have took a test this morning and it was negative. I am not due to start my period until Tuesday. Is there still a chance I could be pregnant or could it be a miscarriage?
