What Causes Heavy Bleeding During Periods?

My daughter got up this morning to go pee and the toilet was so full of blood.. it took three flushes to flush all the blood.. I took her to er and that said she was fine only after taking 1 urine sample and no other tests ???? she ended her period yesterday and has nothing on her pad today yet
