What Causes Heavy Bleeding During Pregnancy?

My girlfriend is pregnant. We went to the doctor about two days ago and they told us that she was def pregnant but it was to early to detect the ultra sound. I am worried because she is bleeding heavy and she has clots in her urine and pads. We were told to go back to do blood work and that will be tomorrow. Is this a possible miscarriage since she has been bleeding for like 3 weeks straight.

Hello,
If she has been bleeding for so long and also heavily, it is definitely cause for concern since she may be suffering from an incomplete abortion with retained products. She needs immediate medical attention, get properly assessed, a sonogram of the pelvis done along with a blood test for pregnancy, blood counts, coagulation profile and urinalysis. Any infection must be treated and after assessment of her pregnancy, if needed, a surgical evacuation should be performed. Supplementary therapy is a must. Hope this helps.
