What Causes Heavy Bleeding, Excessive Sweating And Chills While On Vancomycin?

I have been diagnosed with Cdiff infection. Onset August 3. Completed 10 day course of Vancomycin, never completely cleared up. Now in the third week of second round of Vancomycin, loose stool continued and on 9/15 doctor added 40 mg of dificid per day. loose stools have diminshed but still have intermitent periods of heavy sweating and chills, can be as many as 4/5 rotations in an hour. Is this to be expected?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to side effects of Vancomycin.

I suggest using daily probiotics to support the intestinal flora.

I also suggest using anti-inflammatory medication for the chills such as Acetaminophen.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
