What Causes Heavy Bleeding Prior To Menstruation?

I'm an 18 year old sexually active female. My period was in January on the 16th. This morning i noticed i was spotting, and the bleeding is getting heavier. I normally have periods that are on time, if this is my period coming, its very early, and i don't have any cramps.
