What Causes Heavy Feeling In Throat After Having Beer?

On many occasions after having a glass of beer, I get "burly" and feel like I have a frog in my throat. I am then unable to continue with dinner. This is much more frequent with heavier, wheatier beers. Sometimes this happens with champagne, too. Never happens with food or other alcoholic beverages. I am still feeling a slight frog in my throat from last night.
