What Causes Heavy Flow Along With Cramps Post An Intercourse While On Mirena?
Hi, I have the mirena iud for about 3 months. the past few days I ve had my period, a very light flow. it subsided last night and I had sex. shortly after, my flow became much heavier. I ve also had some cramping. is it possible that my mirena moved and I might get pregnant?
Hi, I have gone through your query and understood the concern. The cause of the increased menstrual flow is most likely to be hormonal and not due to displacement of the Mirena coil. Since the hormone effect can cause menstrual irregularities in the initial months, this is the most likely reason. Cramping can be accounted for by the uterine contractions/tubal contractions, accentuated by the presence of the device. If the bleeding does not subside in a couple of days and the cramping does not ease out, see your health care provider for further help. A sonogram of the pelvis, preferably in the trans-vaginal route or an MRI of the pelvis is needed to locate the device. Hope this helps.
