What Causes Heavy Menstrual Bleeding With Abdominal Cramps?

How long is too long for a menstrual cycle? I m 43 years old and have not had a period since March. I am now on day 9 with no end in sight. Very heavy, lots of clotting and more cramping than I m used to. Should I be concerned that something else is going on here?

Hi.

I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

You are in the menopausal age group & after attaining no periods for few months , now having a break through bleeding which means you need to consult a gynaecologist to rule out any serious causes.

There are few conditions that cause post-menopausal bleeding, it includes tissue growth, thinning & thickening of vaginal lining, medications or may be cancer.

Better to do Transvaginal USG & endometrial biopsy at the earliest for further evaluation

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Get well soon.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
