What Causes Heavy Menstruation After Taking Depo Provera Injection?
Hi I am currently on the depo shot and I have had a heavy period for 2 weeks now and doesn t seem to be slowing down. I have an appointment which my local Gynecologist on in less than a week and I really need to be able to see her on this appointment because I need to get my bartholin cyst removed while I am on my holidays in March. Is there anything I can take to stop the period just for a few days? Could I take my old levlen tablets that I took before I started the depo injection for a few days before the appointment? Thanks.

I know your frustration and depo shot can sometimes lead to heavy periods right after first shot. It will improve with less or no periods at all in coming months. Till then, there are few ways to control your current periods.
Stop taking Levlen tablets as they won’t help in stopping the bleeding. If I were your treating physician, I would advise you to take:
• Tab. Premarin (estrogen only pill) once daily for 7 days. It will help in blood clotting and improve vascular supply to uterine lining.
• Cap. Tranexamic acid 500mg three times daily for 3-4 days. It will actively stop bleeding.
• Tab. Ponstan (mefenamic acid) for 3-4 days. It is also help in stopping heavy bleeding.
You may consult your gynaecologist about what to do if you experience heavy bleeding again in future.
