Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What could cause the sensation of heaviness of the lower extremities-legs and feet- like having a balloon under the feet to the point of affecting the gait, indeed, the balance of the patient? No swelling, edema, phlebitis or any other inflammation ?BS 185; Rx: Lisinopril, Amlodipine,Thyroxine,Tramadol... Thank you!
Heaviness in legs. The most likely cause is venous insufficiency. Can also be peripheral arterial disease.
If I were your treating doctor,I would recommend, -Visit to vascular surgeon and get investigation done like Colour doppler for blood flow of legs. -Compression stockings application may help. -Muscle strengthening exercises of calf with the help of physical therapist. Avoid standing at one place or keeping the legs immobile for long. -Sit /sleep with feet side of bed elevated. -Watch out for signs of ankle oedema, calf pain or ulcer/discolouration around ankle which indicates deep vein thrombosis.Venous insufficiency increases risk of DVT.
Hope this information helps. Wish you good health.
