What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding After Taking Plan B Ipills?

Hi. I took plan B after a condom break and started a period about a week later that lasted about 4 days. The bleeding stopped for about 3 days and started again heavier that normal. This is the second time ever having to take plan B but this didn t happen the first time. Is this normal?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Plan B is an emergency contraceptive pill. It needs to be taken within 72 hours after an unprotected intercourse to prevent pregnancy.
Hence, what you have done is right. The pill would prevent pregnancy by causing withdrawal bleeding within 3 weeks from the intake of the pills.
Since you had withdrawal bleeding, there is no need to be worried about taking the pill again. Sometimes, bleeding would happen again for few more days or it might get prolonged due to the effect of drug.
In case you still have doubt and it is bothering you, kindly take a urine pregnancy test and consult Gynecologist for appropriate advise.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
