What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding After Taking Steron?

Hi Doc please help last month I was travelling I was on my menses I took 1tab of steron to stop the bleeding stopped for 2days then it s started again while coming back I took another 1tab again it stopped for again 2 days .later it came with heavy bleeding and it lasted for 5days I took my pregnancy control pill it stopped for 13days it came back which II thought it was my normal menses now it has lasted for 7 days which my normal one lasts only 4_5 days it s heavy what cool be the problem and can I do to stop it .

Hi,

Steron contains norethisterone which is a synthetic form of progestin. Intake of progesterone-like hormone delays the menstrual bleeding and on stopping the drug, withdrawal bleeding occurs.

The usual drug regimen is to take 3 to 4 days before the expected date of periods. The drug is to be taken for 5 to 10 days (not to exceed 14 days). After stopping the drug, bleeding occurs.

No breaks should be taken in between drug intake and dose must be completed according to the given treatment course. In your case,skipping the dose has affected your cycles.

I suggest you stop the drug and wait for the regularisation of your menstrual cycles.

If still, heavy bleeding occurs, consult your physician regarding the same.
