What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding After Taking Sulfamethoxazole?

Hi. I am being treated for a bladder infection with sulfamethoxazole and had two occasions of heavy bleeding over the week-long treatment. In both cases the bleeding stopped but not without extreme pain in urination and in passing the clots. In both cases, blockage was so extreme that I worried about needing cathetorization. The last episode seems to be quieting but I m wondering if I have anything to worry about before my next checkup with the doctor in about three weeks. Thx.

Hello,

It is not related to Sulfamethoxazole.

As a first line management, you can take drugs like Tranexamic Acid to control bleeding.

If symptoms persist better to consult a gynecologist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
