What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding Between The Periods?

Hi, I am 24 and been experiencing heavy bleeding between periods for the last year or so. before i had my daughter who is 2yrs old my periods where like clockwork. now i have had an abnormal smear and the doc wants me to go for a colposcopy examination. im worried, what do you think it could be.
