What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding During Menstruation?

I have been spotting for about 3 weeks. Then started a heavy period a couple days ago. Today the bleeding stopped but I was have intense painful cramps for about 4 hours. When they stopped I immediately soaked a pad in less than 5 minutes. I am now back to what seems like a normal heavy flow period. I am not pregnant. What could be the cause and how quickly should I see a doctor or do I need to see a doctor?

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
What problem you are facing of heavy and frequent irregular menstrual bleeding with abdominal cramps is called 'menorrhagia'. The problems could be due to hormonal changes happening in your body or due to local issues related to uterus or endometrium.
You need to get evaluated clinically and investigated by a Gynecologist for knowing what could be the cause, so that it could be appropriately treated.
Earlier you get it treated, better it would be for you.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
