Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Heavy Vaginal Bleeding While Suffering From Chronic Cough?
Hi, I have had bronchitis for weeks with excessive coughing and have suddenly started bleeding when I just had my period 2 weeks ago. The blood is bright red and is quite heavy when I cough. I am on the pill and my periods are quite regular, I m not sure if this bleeding is related to the constant coughing?
It is unlikely that the vaginal bleeding is related to the cough. Generally different causes are responsible for each of these. I would recommend you to first have a urinary pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy as this is the first to consider when periods change or there is bleeding.
If the pregnancy test is negative you will need a visit with your doctor to make sure the cervix of the womb is well (when the bleeding is better the doctor might ask for a pap smear to rule out problems with the cervix). A transvaginal ultrasound can be ordered as well to rule out problems with the inner layer of the womb as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
