What Causes Herpes In Mouth And Spots On Penis While Having HSV 1?

I was currently diagnosed through a doctor's office as having HSV 1. I have the herpes in my mouth and also a few sores on top of my penis close to my body. I know I have HSV 1 but after all the reading I have done, I am wondering how do I know if they are genital or oral or must I have both because I have sores in both spots?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear user,

HSV-1 is most often associated with oral lesions (mouth, lips), and HSV-2
is associated with genital lesions.

However HSV-1 viral infection of the cutaneous tissue manifests itself by vesicular lesions on the mucous membranes and skin, so based on your introdtuction you have a (HSV-1) infection that is localizated in both places: oral (in the mouth) and genital (on top of penis).

Hope I was clear for you, but if you have other questions you may ask me.

Take care.
