What Causes High BP And Thyroid Levels And How Dangerous Is It?

Hi,
My uncle suffers from High BP...almost 230 almost all the time. This has started after he lost his 27 yrs old son in an accident few months back. All I know is that his Leucocyte count is 11k and his thyroid is little high than the normal range. He is going thru emotional trauma but would like to know if it is related to heart or mind as his medicines are not working on him. Also would like to know how dangerous it can be at this stage i.e. BP 230.
Thanks & regards,
Vandana

Briefly, you are talking about the 230 being systolic (the number on top)? Also, what is a little high on his thyroid? He should be shooting for a TSH of 2.5 to avoid depression. To lower his blood pressure, please have him follow the DASH diet, the diet recommended by ACC for high blood pressure. Yes, a blood pressure this high is dangerous and he should see a doctor as they will probably want to start him on a diuretic first. But lowering the sodium in his diet as the DASH diet emphasizes, will also help with any elevated lipids if he has them. The stress should be dealt with in a positive manner. Have him take a 30 minute walk every day. I believe in meditation, but I don't know how your uncle would take it. Take him to the doctor, download the diet from the internet, get him on his walking program and speak to him about his blood pressure and how it puts him at risk for a stroke and emphasize the importance of positive grieving and stress control.
Good luck to you all and I am here for followup questions!
